Are you ever left speechless, friend? Where the words just leave you? You’re tired. Overwhelmed. Confused. Whatever it may be, there comes a point we have to silence the words running through our minds that we may take time to simply rest and wait for a word from the Lord to move you, revive you, and reassure you.

Words have me beat today. God is stretching me in some areas that aren’t so comfy and cozy. He’s laying words on my heart that I’m struggling to swallow because they seem too hard. The calling seems beyond someone like me and my capabilities. The enemy’s attack of fear has been laid thick. A calling that seems even more trying than marriage.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews 11:8-10

Have you felt the nudging of God in your life to make a change in one area or another? Have you been called to something but you’ve kind of been trying to run the other way sure He’s seeking the wrong person for the job?

Sweet friend, I can’t tell you the times I tried to run from the calling in my marriage. I was sure I wasn’t suited for the job. God showed me early on that it was His purpose I was where I was. That doesn’t mean I accepted the tasks well, especially in the beginning. What I did have was faith. Many times, it was the exact size of a mustard seed and no greater but it was there.

I love how the verse says, by faith he obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. Faith. Not surety of what was to come. What the next chapter would look like. But by Faith in his Father who had called him.

Have you been hesitant to take such a bold step of active faith in your marriage because of a fear of rejection or failing? Maybe your husband isn’t a believer and you have hunkered down in your faith to keep from his mocking of your faith. Whatever place you feel God is calling you, it’s time to step out in faith, friend and head in the direction where your inheritance from your King lies waiting for you.

And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country…

Do we hesitate to love hard people sometimes because we fear what the turnout may be? Do we contemplate staying in our marriages through seasons of loneliness because we don’t know where it’s going? God designed marriage, friend. I’m certain He’s for you and has a path to His inheritance even when you aren’t sure where you are going. Sometimes it feels you are in the midst of a foreign country where everything feels wrong and out of place. Not quite what you had expected.

That could be the very land of promise in your life. Where God’s glory may shine brightest and He will do what only He can do.

…for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Sometimes, we must only wait…in faith….trusting God is the builder and maker from our faith. Creating cities from ruins. Creating a miracle from a mess.

We don’t always need the right words. Or any at all. Nor do we need a blueprint or a map for where we are headed. Faith, my friend. All we need is faith.
