When the Weary Woman Wins

When the Weary Woman Wins

“I’m done,” I told myself and my husband (oh, and God).

After a petty yet surreal argument while spending the weekend visiting family, I surely believed my husband and I were too much of polar opposites to ever win at this marriage thing. Feeling weary was an understatement.

How could we ever make progress when we disagreed more than the kids arguing over who got captain seats? If he chose navy blue, I chose light blue. Always. The common ground seemed invisible.

I’m not sure what area of your life makes the word “weary” feel like an understatement. Dear friend, I can relate without you having to say a word. Let me encourage you with Proverbs 3:5-6 which says,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV)

I’m living that verse, sister, and so can you!

Fast forward through that nasty morning argument on the front porch of my in-laws house, regret filled words said (mainly on my end and by the conviction of Christ),and my husband being stunned by the shift of events due to one disagreement.

I had allowed Satan to pin me in my weariness. Thankfully, Jesus wasn’t having it.

How is he attempting to pin you down today to convince you the only way out of your weariness is to escape your situation? Forfeit basically.

To forfeit seemed like a relief at this point. All the little details of indifference in our marriage made me sure even God was in agreement. Boy, was I wrong.

This particular Sunday morning, I knew before I made any final decisions, I needed God’s approval. I left my husband behind as I went to church seeking God’s approval for my reckless behavior. Makes sense, right?

As the worship music began, I felt the walls beginning to fall. Not necessarily toward my husband but in surrender to my Jesus. “God, I don’t see any future in this marriage, but if you do, I will go home. I may not understand this journey, however I choose Your ways for me beyond my own weary ways.”

Have you ever asked God to give you a sign? If you are open to His will in your life, he will NEVER leave you hanging (especially when He knows you’re a spitfire like me).

Would you believe the sermon topic was about not giving up in hard seasons? Well it was, but I still wasn’t convinced. That’s a universal topic. I needed an arrow to the heart and God knew it.

The sermon was coming to a close and an older man stood up in tears asking for the mic. He shared how in his former years his wife became a believer and was forsaken by people she loved, including him. This dear woman had lived through some weary seasons but stood firm in her faith. He confessed his love for his wife. His last words confessed that through the faith of his wife and her choice to never give up, he had become sanctified in Christ. She had won.

He heard me and met me right where I was and He will do the same for you. I couldn’t foresee the season where our differences would become a blessing, or where we would grow to understand the power in compromise. But God could. By my husband’s side is my absolute favorite place to be.

Had I not chose Christ’s will over my own in that season, I would have not experienced this kind of win from that kind of weary.

In a season where I had to trust Him because my understanding made no sense, He is backing His promise as he continues to make my paths straight. I so deeply desire for you experience that same kind of intimacy with our Savior. And to know the depths of winning in an area you were once so weary.

the lovely exchange:

allowing our weariness to guide our steps to everlasting curves and dead ends

exchanged for

allowing Jesus to guide our steps that by trusting in Him, He will make our paths straight (where we win)
